Peak Putters - March 5 Blue Mountain Foothills Run

Postby SPR » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:58 am

The recent snowy and windy weather in the Blue Mountains prompted a snow run. A troop of three (Lee, David, and Steve) ran up to the Blue Mountain foothills just outside of Waitsburg on March 5th in search of snow drifts. Mostly clear skies, little wind and temperatures in the mid 40s made it a good day to be in the hills.

We didn’t find as much snow as we hoped. The road up Payne Hollow was plowed up to Wilson Creek. The rest of the road up to Lewis Peak was well packed by traffic. Near the end of the road, we found a landowner with his new Chevy (and 8 sacks of deer feed) stuck in the ditch. With a bit of effort, we got him out of the ditch and then watch him slide into the ditch again about 40 yards down the road. We pulled him out again and made certain that he made it safely down the slope. If the club had a “Land Owner Relation Committeeâ€

I pulled the disconnect cover off again and the inner axle is spinning freely so I must have broke that inner axle as well. Not sure how they would both break at the same time, I'm guessing the u-joint went first and then the ears got hung up on the knuckle and caused the inner shaft to break. That was only the 3rd trip on that new ujoint and I wasn't doing much when it snapped, I knew I should have got a Spicer, don't ever buy Rockwell u-joints :?

You know David, when that broke I swore I heard two pops. Makes sense now.

I'll get my pics and my brother's pics up later.

Good run and a fun day. Thanks Steve for keeping my little lapse in judgement on the hush-hush.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Just so you know, I found that fifth of rum and a fullish bottle of Coke while scouting out the route. It looked and smelled o.k. but I didn't think it wise to take a snort. I set both beverages along side the road in a snow bank for the next guy.

You kept my headlight / dead battery secret... I'll keep your found rum secret. :P

Great run report, by the way, but I think you are under selling the size of the drift.
