Peak Putters - 3 Ball (7/19/2014)

Postby OldGreen » Sun Jul 20, 2014 5:20 am

It was fun. First round had the tightest finish in 3 Ball history.

I ended up winning, but I can't say that is the whole story. Lee, you want to expound?

Jr. is my daughter. She made a few more runs and ended up with a 1:48 that didn't count officially, but she was "turning and burning and hugging the curves".

I'll get a story and pics, even vid up in a bit, but 1st, I have a question... Did anybody grab the tees? I was distracted by helping unstuck the Fords.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

I'm glad I am not the only one.

I was in bed at 7:30. Of course, class started at 5:45am and I had to go to CDA to pick up Will from camp. Sure glad the wife/daughter team did more than half the driving.

It was a a good day!
Thanks to Jose and TJ Dave for the training and assist airing up and down.....
and to Jose for showing me a way to drop significant seconds off my time :)
Glad a few of you came over and enjoyed the pool afterwards.....

Did I see a flat bed trailer near the blue bridge taking away a participant?

Yes. Zach's battery didn't hold out all the way home with the dead alternator. He got it shipped off to his dad's shop to get fixed.

That was part of the "story" of the day. All ended well and he was at the house having supper with us by 6PM.

I developed a squeak that I need to investigate. And. ..yeah. . .the stupid kid that forgot to put those two shock bolts in. Fancy shocks don't do a lot of good unless then are actually bolted down. . .

OK Lee. . .we have waited long enough. I'll at least try for the roll call:

Lee/Jeeper Chicks (LJ-R)
Jose/Sveta/Iz (YJ and Sand Anchor)
Mandi/Marlies JK-U
TJDave
Grumpy and Smiley (F150 with breakover issues)
OG/Jess (Chuck)

Guest: Zack (Jess' boyfriend, 2nd Gen Toy extra cab)

3 Ball-ing

Postby iaccocca » Tue Jul 22, 2014 10:54 am

3 Ball was a blast... Surprise!
It was hot (not as hot as last week), there was a breeze (it was nice but threatened the EZ-Ups) and it was sandy, but it always is.

The 1st round was especially a hoot, with the two RGR drivers finishing the course with time separated by 100ths of seconds. In the end Jimmy became responsible for the traveling trophy. Jose was 2nd. I think I scored myself as third (I like the way I score.) My elder Jeeper Chick, Millie, was my co-dawg and did GREAT! Between 1st and last runs, it was determined that Mandi was most improved.
Held at Juniper, I believe in the same bowl as the initial Peak Putter 3-Ball tourney. With, the tees in similar placement. 3 Fords were pulled out untold number of times; two PP rigs and one 2-wheel drive Ford that was in the dunes out of his element.

I took some pics and video, but forgot to bring my new spare batteries for my fancy-dancy new cam, so I mostly just have pics of Jose and Sveta on their 1st run.

TJDave was our official timer...

There were several unofficial runs after the competion with OG's Jr. flogging his Cherokee quite nicely. Jose took over my Rubicon and embarrassed my time by an easy 18 seconds with out really abusing my rig. I took a pass in Jose's YJ embarrassing myself by being 20 seconds slower in his rig than in mine, despite the fact he urged me to abuse it.
Reports are one competitor made it to the Blue Bridge, but no further. Some of the players ended up in Lance and Mandi's pool afterwards.
Money was raised for the October Campsite, but as of this writing TJDave has opted for the funds to stay in the club coffers until we see how much future 3-ball events raise for the November cabin.

Video to follow.

And all is right with the World.

We should do that again sometime. . .maybe form a league and give all the money to our campouts, charity, steak/beer, etc. Maybe even buy some land and set up a semi-permanent course. You know, with insurance and helmets and Sh(T.

I love 3 ball...I also love that anyone can do it as long as their rig has enough flotation not to get stuck. Even blind girls and wetsiders. . .

Teenagers and old guys (raises hand). . . .

That's funny!

4 "tees" that will hold a softball or a baseball. 2 laps. Time starts when the vehicle leaves the home tee.
Passenger places ball on tees on the first lap. Driver removes the balls on the second. Clock stops when last ball is lifted off the home tee.
Speed without knocking a tee over or dropping a ball is the key, because the clock keeps on ticking.
Safety is a factor too. No vehicle movement without seatbelts secured for both occupants. So, you must get close enough to reach the target without knocking it over, or unbelting, for a good time.

It's not very fun.....
