Skyline loop, Blue Mtns.

Postby oddball » Mon Apr 04, 2016 7:56 pm

I called a run on short notice to the Blue Mountains. It had been a while since we've had a snow run on this side of the state that didn't involve a Christmas tree. The idea was to run the loop, Skyline to Godman, behind Bluewood and then down the North Fork of the Touchet back to Dayton. We left the Hood Park turn off at 0725 with myself (Oddball), Steve (SPR) and Roy (Royboy). Ed and Karen Livezey caught up with us in Dayton in their new to them TJ. We dropped tow rigs behind Dingles and headed up Eckler to the snow park where we aired down. Leaving the snow park at 0930 heading up Skyline looking for snow. Surprising to me, consistent snow on the road wasn't found until at least two miles into forest service property. The weather was sunny and warm making the snow wet but still somewhat firm on the road but mash potatoes off it. We made good time and at noon we were lunching at Godman Springs. Leaving Godman we continued on the backside to Bluewood Playing all along the way. The only damage I'm aware of was a scrape on my soft top after falling into a treewell. Running low on fuel and getting short on time we made our way to the Touchet snow park at 1630. We club aired up and made our way to our tow rigs in Dayton. Dinner was had at Whiskey Creek in Waitsburg and arriving back home at 1930.

I'll try to get some pictures posted up tomorrow.

Was this Sunday? We were there Saturday but didn't see any other jeeps. It was our first time to the area and it was great fun.

That's correct we were there on Sunday. We never saw another vehicle on the trail. No snowmobile, ATV or wheeler. I think it is very popular with the night crowd, firm snow.
