Camp Schamp 2017

Postby SPR » Sat Apr 29, 2017 4:51 am

Here are few photos of the run up the Middle Fork to Darlan Mt on the Saturday of Camp Schamp 2017. Please post more photos and details if you wish. I didn't make Sunday's run up the North Fork towards Blue Lake so perhaps someone can provide photos and details.

Most of the group showed up Friday afternoon in time to get a catfish taco. The Yabarra's showed up in time to get a breakfast burrito Saturday morning.

There were thirteen rigs that left camp Saturday morning at 900AM. Chrispy had the first big stuck of the day when his rig punched through the undercut snow. A large portion of the snow on the road was undercut in this area.

There is plenty of snow on the mountain. This is the vaulted toilet at Clover Springs. At the time, with TP in hand, I was really hoping someone had dug a path of the door... no such luck.

It snowed off and on while we were on top the ridge. The wind also blew and punished those without full tops and those who had to get out their rigs to winch and shovel. However, it was still very cool to be on the mountain.

The decent was pretty uneventful for most. There was one small off camber climb that got worse after each rig which provided a little pucker factor. Tim got the worst of it and had to winch. Jose blew a bead on flat ground which seems to become his signature move. David K, fell through an undercut kind of like Chrispy. I hope someone will post pictures of these things.

We had a good potluck and camp fire Saturday night.

Sunday morning, a smaller group rolled out of camp at 900AM to see about getting up to Blue Lake. The rest of the group poked around camp and slowly dissipated as the urge to get home set in.

I only took a few. Because...
We came back down with Chris to make sure they made it back to camp. Or, because...
There was plenty of stuff to drink the night before.
Or...a combination of both.

Somebody talk to me about that 5th wheel toyhauler... make/model/specs? Tie down arrangement for the Jeep that presumably rides inside? Had a toy hauler for years before our motor home, considering going back.
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

2007 Weekend Warrior 3505. 35 feet head to tail measured out. 17 foot x 8.5 foot garage unobstructed to the kitchen. 5,500 lb tie downs in the floor. Pretty sure an LJ would fit. Not sure of the height inside but I can jump up and not touch the ceiling. 5,000 lb ramp. 6000 lb cargo capacity. No slides but it doesn't need any.

They also made a 3305 with a 15 foot garage and a 3705 with a 19 foot garage and a 4105 with a 21 foot garage.

There's about 10 floor tie downs in it. I just use on strap at school corner and cross the back ones. I used wheel chocks as well when I started but not any more.

The bulk of the weight is right over the triple axles which is perfect.
