Rimrock day trip 7-23-21

Postby Roman » Sat Jul 24, 2021 7:31 am

Day trip to Rimrock, round 2...

The goal was to verify access to the Ahtanum side, but with recent DNR fire closure, not run the loop into Ahtanum. Well, we didn't make it :scared:

Trailers were rolling early AM, fuel loaded, breakfast shoveled in. I was worried camp sites would be tough to find on a Friday, but the first large site on the Camp Ghormley turn off was picked as base camp!

After unloading and packing the Jeeps we had a small confab on routes. The overall goal was considered, but with plenty if daylight we figured we'd run some extra trails to fill out the day.

After a few gravel roads and an interesting washout we were on a gravel connector to the general area.

"Ooh look, a trail marker! Let's see where this leads..."

Let's just say we found A TRAIL!!!
It was a MONSTER, it claimed some parts, damage was received, oil was checked.

I'm not sure what our average speed was, but I think it was counting backwards. Time became irrelevant, the group focused on the new goal, finish this trail. Obstacles were handled one at a time. Attitudes stayed positive. Fun was had.

It was a LONG day. We reached the trailers and once aired back up, gear unloaded and Jeeps tied down we hit the long road for home.

Some wounds will need attention, but all three rigs will definitely live to wheel another day

Well, it was dusty. The only switch that used in my Jeep more than the locker switch was the windshield washer. Would have used the winch switch more, but the winch was toast by about halfway. I think some smoke would have been let out, but, you know, fire ban. Lockers on for hill climbs (monsters), off for sidehills and to steer between trees. Something in between for sidehill hill climbs in the trees. This trail had everything but dancing girls and snow.
Belle, the wheeling dog, proved to be a trooper on even the hard core trails.

Trailer to trailer was about 20 miles. Day was long; about 10 hours seat time (in Jeeps.) Good attitudes, good friends, good times.

Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.
