Blue mountains 4-8-23

Postby commando14 » Tue Apr 11, 2023 8:49 pm

On Saturday my dad and Curtis made the trip up the Rose Springs snow park south of Pomeroy and met up with a few of us who were staying in the Clearwater Big House cabin. They arrived at the cabin around 9:30am just as we were finishing up with breakfast. We headed up NF40 in an attempt to reach the Mt. Misery warming cabin at 6200 feet. NF40 had been groomed up until a week ago, so the main road was nice and hard packed. When venturing off the main road the snow was hit or miss. Some spots you could crawl around and play, and other spots were just too soft. The snow was very wet and heavy, with 2-3 feet of fresher snow on top that made it challenging. About 2 miles from the summit the main road started to become more challenging with fresh drifted snow in spots. At one point we ended up off the main road due to drifts and almost thought we were going to have to give up. But with some work I was able to break through to the main road again. Once I got moving it was full throttle time blasting though the drifts towards the top. About 1/4 mile from the top I took my eyes off the road for a second and ended up off the main road again stuck in the soft stuff. I watched as my dad flew by me on his way to the top. At the Mt Misery warming cabin we enjoyed some hot dogs before heading back down. We were the first wheeled vehicles to make it into Mt Misery from the Pomeroy side which was cool. It was fun day and the weather was awesome.

Awesome, thanks so much for posting this! My brother lives in Lewiston, maybe exploring this area is a good excuse to go see him more often
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
