My brother needs help, more than normal 8-)

My brother has a 95 Cherokee with the 4.0, the 5 speed (AX15) and NP231. He has a bad noise when letting the clutch out in gear, but not in neutral. He's pulled the tranny and transfer case. He's taken the transfer case apart to see if that is the problem, but is now convinced that it is not... of course he cannot get it back together. He's in the market for a tranny and maybe a transfer case if he can't get help putting it back together.
PAW wants $450 each for the tranny and the t-case, but it is not a $900 Jeep. I’m going to go look at what he has going on tomorrow and try to help him get his Chevy running so he has a driver.
Any leads on an AX15? How hard is it to put a NP231 back together?

I would think for the NP231 you could just look up one of the millions of writeups on SYE installs and just do the reverse of the steps..
