I bought a jeep, I got a 86 cj-7 it appeares to have a rear D44, D300, TF999, GM 350.
Talked the guy down from $2800 to $2300, someone at one time or another put some nice things into it. its pretty much stock, I think it has a couple inches of lift, shackle revercel, 4 core rad, nice seats.

It needs some body work, they tryed to paint it but did a crappy job, I need to find a soft top(came with a hard top) the motor will need rebuilt(got a rod knock) it did come with new 33x12.5 and black 15x8 wheels.
It will be a fun toy to play with.

Exactly what Jimmy said. In terms of a stock CJ-7, they get no better...

Address the mechanical stuff, keeping it simple and reliable, address any rust, put in a reasonable cage, and wheel the whiz out of it. Should make a GREAT all-around trail rig.

Most likely the shackled reversal will need to be redone. I have yet to see one done right the first time. While I was in the neighborhood I'd swap the turdy out for a waggy 44 and then cage it. Keep it simple and enjoy.

id like to start going on some runs, i have spent the last 4 years becoming a firefighter.
Now that life has become (kinda) back to normal i should have time.

It is a jeep thing and i still dont understand.

20 years of Toyota's, never much of an issue i dont already know about, easy to work on.

1 week of jeep, what a PIA the Toyota is easier to work on .

I know it as a light duty torqueflight. But it's supposed to be behind a (needing to be replaced) chevy 350. I can't for the world imagine why someone would go through the pains to adapt a chevy motor in front of it. All that work to get a motor that's inferior?

Just put a 318 in front of it and be done, it'll outlast at least 2 chevy motors.

I can agree with you on the first part that it is silly to go through the trouble of adapting that trans to a gm engine but if any of that setup is inferior it's the light duty trans. Toss that turd in the trash and slide a th350 behind the superior gm engine with a factory np208 t case adapter for the 300 and it's done right and cheap.

I dont see in the near future getting rid of the D300 for a np208.

forgive my ignorance but isnt the 4500 not a super long trans? and wouldnt something along the lines of ogs cj set up work better?

and i like the late model 465 as opposed to the earlier 465/420 because of the 10 spline couple but the 32 spline setup has a long adapter but i belive that AA sells a short 32 spline shaft

I would NEVER recommend swapping the 300 for a 208. I said to use the 208 ADAPTER to run the 300. You use a factory GM adapter and a $120 spud shaft from AA to put it together.

There is a sm420-300 adapter on NWW right now.


Yes the 4500 is long and it is large. The AX15 would make a great choice and it pretty much bolts right in with a adapter bellhousing from AA.
