A question for the computer savvy.

Well, Barb bought a new 'puter for my daughter to give me for Christmas

. We use Charter internet and e-mail. My question is what will I need to do to make the transition? Do I just plug it in to the modem and go with it? Also, how do I transfer stuff from this old POS to the new one? (currently an old Dell pent2 with windows ME) It's mostly the pics that I want. I can't wait to be able to download more pics and watch the U-Tube vids without my 'puter crashing! Thanks for any help/input. Dave.

Does your old computer have USB drives Dave?? If it does I would just use a memory stick to transfer your pics and stuff. Super easy to use, you just plug it in, save the stuff to it....then plug it in the other computer and move the stuff you saved. They are pretty inexpensive, you can pick them up at Walmart for less than $20.
Or if you like Trashy and I have one you can use.

You can also put the pics on a dvd, they hold a boat load of pics on them. I have some blank ones if you'd like to go that route. Or I have a 2gig memory deal you're welcome to use.

Yea what peanut said... get a USB jump drive to transfer your pics and other files, hopefully ME will recognize the jump drive. And yea you should be able to just plug it into your modem and have internet. If you currently use Outlook Express or some other email client to access your charter email you'll need to re-configure it on your new computer. Or if you just use their web based email there would be nothing to configure.

WT, No DVD burner on this old PC.

Dave, we use Outlook Express for our e-mail. Do I need to call Charter to have it "reconfigured"? (i'm somewhat 'puter-handicapped!) Peanut, sounds like the jump drive may work. Thank-you guys.

No you can configure it yourself.. it's pretty easy. Go to Charter support page here and it gives you the instructions for Outlook Express, you'll probably have version 6 on your new computer:
http://www.charter.com/customers/Support.aspx?MenuItem=10#. You'll need to know your charter password to set it up.
