He turned onto the road, then backed up and dropped his rear tire onto the 4x4 trail and went over backwards. Pretty bad, lots of blood. The initial call for help was made on CB channel 9. There was some confusion as to the location which delayed matters. To make the recovery more complicated, he weighed 320 pounds. The passenger had lesser head injuries and was taken out by ambulance. When he was brought down to the landing zone at Longmire Meadows he started slip away and the medics worked on him for about an hour before he was stable enough to load onto the bird for the flight to the hospital.

Last I heard he had subdural hematoma (bleeding in the brain) and was critical at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. To add insult to injury, a relative who went to the hospital the morning after suffered a heart attack!
