When in the driveway have to use the parking brake because it rolls backwards out of park. Dont know why but its like it jerks or rachets. I had a stick car do this before but not an auto. Also took it for a spin the other day and punched it off the stoplight at about 35 it kinda jerked back and fourth between gears not like slipping but more like slamming back and fourth. Any clues. Im pretty new to fords I used to wheel an s10 blazer back in the day but have no clue on the ford stuff. Tranny is an AOD 4 speed if that helps. Tranny going out or just linkage?? Previous owner mentioned something about linkage. Well anyways got to run to work and cook up some Famous Ribs. Give me a hollar if you have any insight into this thanks ahead of time

As for the racheting and rolling down your drive way how steep is your drive way? If it is fairly steep you will have to use your parking brake. Other then that the parking pawl in your trans may be worn. The shifing thing you may want to check your kickdown linkage and make sure it is adjusted properly.

from what i understand (read no personal exp) ford pawls are extremely weak and if P has ever been hit while moving it is probly busted

doesnt do it all the time but i tend to always use the parking brake just for peace of mind. Im most likely goin to swap the Aod for a C6 when i have the cash, and also swap the front Ttb for a Danna 44. I have no experience though and have no clue what im doing but will hopefully find a few of you that want to tackle it at some point, Guide me through it. I think it would be fun anyways. Love to learn. Have a few brews and Wrench. Anyone up for it when the time comes.

what do you plan on doin with the rig?
as far as gearing goes with lower gears and highway the c6 just wont make you very happey. ive always wished i had an od gear and thats with 39.5 inch tires the aod will be fine for exploring and light wheeling as long as its not gettting hit with big tires and highway gears(3.somthings)
from what i understand your wanting a good solid camping/light wheelin rig
imo rebuild the aod (with even stock parts) about 4.10's swappin in a d44 front and 35's would put you at a good expedition style rig

It's a ford, stop using the parking brake and just let it roll away silently on it's own.. You'll be better in the long run for it..
