Got pulled over today and had a verbal warning about the lack of mudflaps on the Cherokee. Thanks to the gracious Pasco policeman for not writing me a ticket!

For those that dont know, mudflaps must extend at least to the axle centerline to be legal.

Time for more upgrades...

Hmm. You didn't remind him to look at most new 4x4 pickups on the road?

Virtually every new 4x4 out there is illegal to some extent. A lot of 4x2's won't pass muster either, but they get oof because they're "factory" I guess. Won't it be great when the feds or states really get into bumper and light hieght requirements? That stuff is on the books now, but only those of us with mods get nailed it seems...

Honestly, I think it had more to do with the road grime I was getting all over his windshield while he was following me. I dont think he was "looking" for mudflap violators.

I got a hold of an old motorhome full-width flap that I'll install soon.

some where there is another that says the mud flap must be as wide as the tire and drop down to the center line of the axle.

I got a pretty good laugh when a cop pulled me over for no mud flaps and his jaw dropped when he saw my front fenders... or lack there of.

He said I needed mud flaps and that he liked my tube fenders, but that other cops might not.

Problem solved:


Took a mud flap from a wrecked motor home, installed it with quick-links so it is easily removable, and it will fold completely out of the way if it hits anything while it is still attached.

usually you will get credit for at least attempting to have mud flaps, But technically is has to cover the full width of your tire down to the center line of the axle

Shush now, we dont want the Po Po to be too informed...

It is a little narrow, but goes below axle centerline.
