According to the stipulation

Postby CopenhagenCowboy » Thu Feb 04, 2010 11:54 am

my jeep is too high! well after recently installing my lift kit as well as paying big bucks to get it im reluctant to get rid of it. my shackles are too long, i know if i got shorter ones it would drop me a little. Im afraid the only ways to lower it would be A. uninstall the lift or B. get smaller tires. what do i need to do? :?

not sure what "stipulation" you are refering but if it's state law, then yes you are probably illegal.
This is just a fact if you run a modified rig on the road be it an aftermarket bumper or 44" boggers.
If you have mud flaps, fender flares, AND A CLEAN RIG they will mostly leave you alone. If your rig is covered with mud and lights that work when they feel like it, you're asking to be pulled over.

How's it set up exactly?

4" springs, spring under and 35s?

The very best set up to run 35s on a CJ is 2.5" lift and trim the fenders/TJ flares. I'm a little biased though.

Edit: The reason for my bias. Here's my set up. you'd have to imagine it being narrower, but the height is just about right. With this setup and the wide axles/tires, it is very, very low in the "center of gravity" department:

Here is a little better angle and you can see the TJ flares in the rear.

now its gonna sound really bad, i was told that in order to fit 33's i needed a 4 in lift. so im runnin 4 in lift and 33 12.50s . i dont want to get rid of the lift or buy new tires considering ive only had them both a month now. but im worried on trail rides that im gonna flop or roll. i could get new rims with different backspacing, or some spacers i guess. when i get back form basic ill do some stuff to the jep but not much before.

You can use your springs and mix them with your old stock springs assuming you still have them to lower the rig and get a more compliant suspension. What springs do you have now? Don't tell me, tuff country?

Sometimes you just have to roll. It's a fact of life. That's why God invented roll cages.

Just run it, you might like it, if not change it then.
A lot is personal preference on what looks good to you and what works for you.
Right now the trend is how low can you go.
'90 was suspension drop.
'80 was how many light can you put on one rig.
