Throw it away and get a Rochester. I kid not...Get with John at P.A.W. and see what he's got laying around. Need one off a late 60's GM.

Rochester dual jet... Stone simple and they just flat work. I can have one off rebuild it and have it back on the rig running in about 45 minutes if I stop for lunch in the middle.

Zach, what year is your rig? The rochester dual jet is not a bad carb, but some use electronic emission stuff. You may want to get one from a pre 80s rig. I seem to remember reading that a motorcraft 2100 may be a good option for a 4.2li.

im trying to go with the cheapest route. my carb has vacuum lines coming from it and all that jazz, i would like to replace it eventually but i dont want to start tearing out the lines and causing more problems. if its about the same price to rebuild or get a rochester then ill go with the latter. then maybe i can get rid of that swiss cheese air breather ive got on there now and eliminate a few vacuum lines. but im on a very tight budget right now so cheap cheap cheap.

Seriously, toss the Carter and get a Rochester. Pull all the vacuum crap, and get the thing to run like it should...You can use the routing in the Scout as a guide.

It meters fuel better coming out the side and dripping on the exhaust/engine than it does fuel going into the engine? :P

J/K

I have the single-barrel stock carb from my 2.5 you can have if it'll fit. I believe it is the same carb used on the 6-cylinder engines. I think it's the one they are saying to avoid, though, since it says "Carter / Weber" on it.

If you want to rebuild your carb, try Nine to Nine or AAW for a kit. They are probably around $40.

If you need any help, let me know!

Pull out the transfer case and the crank shaft. Now scrap the rest of the drivetrain and start over with a 4.0 with that 4.2 crank and some other misc parts to build a sweet 4.6 stroker with a ax15 between that and the 300. Now dig up some waggy axles and your golden. :D

Or just dig up a carb...

2x on the motorcraft 2100 conversion. Had a friend do this on his Scout (with a 258), made a huge difference.

http://www.rocktaxi.com/tech/motocraft/42carbswap.html

E-bay has some conversion kits but the parts aren't hard to source, well, the that style of carb might be a little harder to find since none have been made for close to 30yrs.

Does your rig have the silly verticle pull on the cable, or is it horizontal?

Posted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:46 pm
by CopenhagenCowboy
you talkin the throttle cable? its horizontal

Okay, you won't have to invent anything to adapt like we did on the Scout.
