So, what is the general thought on running 15-40 oil in a Ford V-10? This came up at work when I had to put a quart in one of the vans. The only oil provided to us is Conoco 15-40. The V-10 is supposed to use 5-20 as per Ford. So, long term issues could be...?

The Ford gawds tell me that it won't get the top end lubed right. . .but Maybe Lurch will chime in.

Newer engines are built with much tighter tolerences. If you run to thick of oil it can cause a lack of lubrication to some parts of the engine expecially the cam and followers up top. Also you typically get better fuel economy with thinner oil.

Yeah, what I guessed about getting oil where it belongs. This is the highly paid pros at BFT. Seems they run 15-40 in everything. Just too big a pain to get the right oil for several verieties of truck...
