New head is on. . .Everything will get torqued/buttoned up on Wed/Thurs and should be ready for a test flight this weekend. . .I'm doing a full tune up and a couple of other clean up things while I'm in there. . .

Update:

Needed more parts. Ordered parts. Parts will arrive next week. I am on for the run. Also, while I'm in there, I'm upgrading to a hotter coil and electronic ignition as well as putting in a new clutch master/slave and insulating it from the exhaust heat.

I have herd that the AMC 304 has valvetrain oiling problems from the factory, and that some people run a line similar to a manual guage sending unit to the Valve cover to assist in getting plenty of lube to the valvetrain? :?:

Yeah. . .and it is something else. . .like getting oil to the frontmost main bearings under hard acceloration. they put an extra oil tube from the rear to the front of the lifter valley. . .Mostly applies to drag cars. I've never had an oil problem and everything looked good when I tore it down.

What I did in the last week:

Replaced a head (not as simple as one statement, it turns out)
Replaced most of the ignition system and changed to electronic ignition from points.(plugs, wires, coile, etc, etc.)
Replaced the clutch master/slave and hose. Coverted from a YJ setup to an XJ setup because they are more common. Rerouted hoses to stay awayish from the exhaust.
Hard wired the winch control into the cab using marine switches. . .one for power and a (on)off(on) momentary for in/out.
Pulled a hub to reseat the wheel studs

and changed the fawkin' oil. . .

tomorrow, I'll clean out the birds nests inside and get on the road!!!

ARG!!! Both of my fuel pumps are dead. The mechanical went out and I think that is what fried the electric. . .Neither will pump anything. . .I'm off to the parts store.

No. . .it is just OLD. . I almost have everything replaced now. That fuel pump was original on a 1976 Wagoneer. . .it led a good, long life and then killed my $100 fuel injection pump.
