The rodeo engine will bolt up to your tranny... No seriously it will.
OG should still have the page I gave him with the insane amount of stuff that can be swapped with factory parts, if not I should be able to find it again.
As for another 258 that isn't hard to find at all. Heck if it was me I'd snag a 4.0 for cheap and put the carbed intake on it and go go gadget Jeep...

ah don't say it............... lol Engines for them cost bux too. Seems like unfortunately the cash for clunkers thing really dried up the supply of used engines. And rebuilding costs are going up. By the time I got done with all the nickel dime stuff and all on rebulding the 6 banger for the son-in-law's 74 cj5 I had about 1200 bucks into it. It needed a crank and pistons as the wear was heavy. The machine work sets you back. One can get by on the cheap, but I took the view that if you are going to tear it down, then might as well do it right. But rebuilt ones from a shop cost a bit now too. You just never know though until you tear the engine down and mic out everything to see what the wear is.
But put an add on Craig's List and see what comes along. You never know what someone has buried away in their garage.
