Hey guys,
I am a little new to the CB scene. I just picked up a Realistic TRC-415 and need info on a decent antenna (where to buy, what to avoid, etc).
I would also like any tips/tricks on installing the radio and antenna setup.
Thanks!

I would also like some info on the CB usage within the club. Is it something that is advisable to use ? etc...
I have an old CB that i can install if it would be beneficial to do so.

Well, this is just me, but as far as I'm concerned, a CB is reguired gear! As for the antenna, I got one from Bill Jr. at BizRad on Volland in Kennewick. It looks like the one's you see on a lot of the business rigs around, not like a regular CB antenna. Very low key, and it works! Spendy, but I think worth it. Had to whack about 3/4" off to get a good SWR, but coax length and such don't seem to be a factor. You MUST get your SWR below 1.3:1 for good operation. If you're on, you should be able to talk durn near to town from Juniper.

Yep. . .www.bizrad.com is the place to call.
Tell Bill Jr. that the RumbleGoat guys sent you. They primarily work with business communications these days so he probably won't want to sell you a CB, but for the antennae and tuning, his techs are the best in the business.

He does radio work for the Arc, too, and is also installing the camera gear we are now required to have in the vans. And he's an avid sand runner...

We have some antennas in stock. You're looking about $65 for the full antenna setup. I will tune it for free.
Thanks,
Bill

Yeah, I know this is an old thread!
I finally got around to getting the CB antenna on. I gotta say, those guys at Bizrad get a thumbs-up from me!
I drove over there during lunch today, and they had the antenna installed and tuned in about the same time it took me to eat my lunch.
Thanks guys!

Cool! And that short whip won't get tangled or broken. I tuned mine myself, anf got it to about 1.25:1 on Lee's meter, and I know I can talk out to someone at the mailbox from the upper lot at Juniper.

Short? Um, he went a little long with mine. Mounted on the roof and sticks up like five feet.

At least his is on the roof and is at little risk of killing somebody.

I need to test my CB out with someone who has a good radio. Mine's all tuned (4' firestick on the rack) but the only other rig with a CB that I can test with isn't set up all that well.

All I have is an untuned walmart magnetic antenna. I never reatached my whip after the bumper was forcefully removed

Yah, I just got my new tire carrier mounted to the jeep. Gonna try and rig something up for the antenna really quick so I can lower it down to roof level.

I hear that really improves the mood of the SWR...
