Looking for some new tires and other non associated B.S.

I'm think'en the Screaming Toylet needs bigger tires -- Something in the 35 -37 range. I've been surfing the web for the discount tire outlets and coming up short. A set of 37/12.50/15 MTRs would be good, but I have also been looking for a set of 35/12.50/15 Coopers and similiar tires. It would be very nice to be able to run a 200 miles+ on road trip and not get the $h!t vibrated out of the driver and truck.

Any good advice on what tire to run and where to buy it?

If you are not daily driving it I love the hell out of my Dick Cepek Mud Terrains. On pavement they do not beat you up and behave pretty much like an all terrain. They squat well when you let out a bit of air. They are soft, and the tread wears evenly, but quickly on pavement. I've had mixed results, but in snow they sometimes out performed bigger tires (sometimes not )
If you are interested I will try to dig up who I bought them from new on eBay; I got a steal.

I like my MT/R's. Can be a mite noisy, depending on road surface, but ride good, and seem to help the big critter get around okay. Wearing well, too. Mine are the old style.

I think you should stick with what you have and just stay on the porch. I hear the all season tires with the walnut chips in them are the bomb for around town in light snow.

I really like my MTZ's... they seem to work well in both the snow and trails.. Usually run 3-4 psi in the snow and was down to 2-3 today, haven't lost a bead yet. I bought them on a ebay just a few years back for $800 shipped to my door, but I just did some looking and it looks like that price is long gone.

I really like my mtr's. They are the old style though. Haven't heard much on the new style yet.

hard to beat mt/r tires in my opinon. I run my goodyears on the road all the time and have had good luck with them offroad as well.

So Toby, how'd the minvan do? Can you recommend the Kia if I go that way? (If I do, you'll have to fashion the front bumper for my Sedona.)

In the grand scheme of things, I could not be happier...

I had the wife, both kids, and gear/food for all above in addition to a large Rubbermaid tote full of tools and recovery equipment. We had room to spare, and were all extremely comfortable - including the DVD player for the kids. We set the cruise at 70mph and battled the head winds to Union Gap, where the wind just went away... Met up with the group at Roy's place, aired down, and hit the trail. I will admit I was pretty conservative at first, running 5 or 6 in the pack and letting those in front provide a nice path. Once we were up on top, we all traded places a few times and eventually I was breaking trail. About 250 yards into that program, I blew a front axle shaft No biggie, I've got some experience in that arena so with a little help from David I had the axle pulled and sawed the damaged u-joint ears down to size to eliminate any further binding. We made our way down the hill in 2wd, aired up at the Tampico fire station, and set the cruise at 70mph for the trip home.

I'm not at all disappointed or upset about the axle shaft, it was just a matter of time with the 37's. I'm tickled pink with how well it drove getting there, loaded for bear and bucking a headwind, and how well it did in low-range. I've got some learning to do regarding how to drive it with the electronic gizmo's and doo-dads that are supposed to be helpful, but that will come. I won't say it's the most capable rig I've ever had, but at this point I can pretty safely say it is the most Swiss Army Knife-like vehicle that I've ever had

Cool! What's in store for the front axle? Chrom-molies or a larger axle all together or spares? Yeah, 37s is pushing it for the front axle. Is the rear a D44 or is there plans for that too.
I'm glad you are happy with it. My LJ (TJ) is never going away, even if it gets company (not soon.) So it is good to have other club members that drive it to the trail head, wheel it, and hopefully, drive it home.
(Is that front axle under warrant?)

This is the first time I have ever not had a tow rig. Even back in high school and with the flattie, I towed with my Ford Ranger(s) Obviously having a tow rig has it's merits, but I have to say, this was kind of a nice deal... Not to mention only burning about 13 gallons of fuel for the day (my F-350 would burn 13 gallons before we got to Proccer ).

As for the plans, I will get chromo's for the front. It was always on the list, just figured I would wait to pull the trigger until necessary. Well, now it's necessary With the wheeling I plan to do with this thing, I don't forsee too many issues once those are in place. The rear D44 should be fine as-is. But, as well all know, the best laid plans...

If you think you can get the front axle warranteed, I'll go with you to Lithia. I used to work for them, so that will all but guarentee they will deny your warantee. But at least they will deny it based on your choice of associates, not based on your choice of tire size.

LOL - I am quite certain they would tell me to pound sand rolling in on 37's with a busted front axleshaft.

Yeah, the first time something mechanical came up that would be covered under my powertrain warranty my deductible was higher that the cost of parts and sweat.
(Of course I did get a whole new soft top and back window just because I had a bad zipper.)

Just put stock tires on it and give it a try.

Oh I'd give it a try. They get 40% over cost of parts plus labor. A service writer might write it up and just hand you the part for the broken one. Or they will just laugh you out of the shop.

Isn't the JustKidding bolt pattern the same 5 on 5 as the wheeels OG put on the WJ? There's some small rubbers to roll in on...

You might want to check out the Hercules Trail Digger M/T. Perfection Tire in Pasco sells them, and they gave me a pretty reasonable quote on a set of 31's.

If you are getting 35s or bigger: MT/Rs
If you are getting smaller tires than that. . .anything gnarly. I like the Toyos, but but they are heavy.

If you are going to raise your center of gravity, make sure to bring your big boy pants to the trail!! It can get mighty tippy!!
