Drive safely on forest roads: Road rules enforced on state trust lands
From the case files of the DNR Law Enforcement Service… an incident in Capitol State Forest resulted in a citation but could have turned out much worse for the driver and his truck.
DNR Law Enforcement Services Chief Larry Raedel says the driver was cited after careening off a road in Capitol State Forest last week. For reasons unknown (but possibly because it seemed like a cool thing to do at the time), the driver accelerated hard on a patch of loose gravel. The result was predictable: he lost control, over-corrected, went off the road and ended up with his truck high-centered on a tree stump (photo).
Raedel says he issued the driver a citation for operating a vehicle off the roadway – a $124 infraction. If Raedel had witnessed the event he might have added a reckless driving charge, too.
We’ve saved the best part for last: the street address on the driver’s license was “Jump A Stump Lane.â€
