Yea, I guess the sheriffs really knew their stuff this weekend. Even a guy that had 1/3 doors got ticketed. Makes sense though, they didnt have a cage and they went on about how the manufacture designs the integrity of the roof around how the doors help with vertical support. Thats why its legal with wranglers and such, they come from the factory with roll bars. Could've been worse. Master Pull got on the C.B. quick enough to tell CRAWL to grab the trailer from camp instead of bookin the buggy down 410 from Milk Creek to Lil Naches Road.

Does anyone know of a way to find out if my particular jeep came with a top or actually DOORS from the factory!
I have owned jeeps for quite a while and today I was told from a County Sheriff that my jeep had to have doors on it.
I told him my jeep probably did not come from the factory with a top and doors. He said "well it has hinges on it" and I explaned that these were aftermarket Bestop hinges. He said " if it has hinges for doors then we will figure it came with doors unless you can prove it!"
He wasn't a butt head about it and never saw I had no mirrors!
Our conversation was actually pleasant and we both learned a lot.
So back to my question. How do I know if my jeep came with a top?

ok guys this door thing is something i was curious about so i spent about an hour reading some rcw's at work since i have to enforce them anyway. the RCW 46.37.517 covers doors and hoods it states:

(1) The body, fenders, and bumpers shall be maintained without protrusions which could be hazardous to pedestrians. In addition, the bumpers shall be so attached and maintained so as to not protrude beyond the original bumper line.
(2) The hood, hood latches, hood fastenings, doors, and door latches shall be maintained in a condition sufficient to ensure proper working equal to that at the time of original vehicle manufacture.

the way i read this is you must have doors end of story. sorry jeeps! but on the other hand i understand that you could run tube doors if they mount to your factory hinges and positively latch closed and arent like bungied closed or something like that.

all depends on the oficer if they want to be a dick then they will read it different but knowing this you could fight the ticket in court if needed.

i will keep researches and check for loop holes and such. oh and i also have some info for running your off road lights on the road legally. pm me or what not and ill pass it on unless someone think i should just start a thread on these laws for info.

Flat fenders never had doors unless equipped with a arctic top. You'll be fine if your rig ever goes up there.

I had a buddy that would tell the LEOs that his '46 CJ didn't come with mirrors. It did, but the officers didn't know and never cited him.

This subject comes up quite often, and the main gripes I have with "this topic" is some officers forget they don't make the laws, and enforce them as they perceive them. The side of the road is not the court room, and a ticket is not a guilty sentence! I am all for trying to talk your way out of a ticket in the first place, but don't get so heated your weekend is cut short by a ride in the back seat of a cruiser!

If a guy was real cynical, he could chalk it up to a LEO that doesn't like 4x4's. Too many of them seek to occasionally "percieve" the rules to suit their own agenda

I recently heard that the LEOs had a couple of slick spots on 410 to pinch speeders and folks running highly modified rigs like buggies and such. It comes down to... "if you want to run the road, you got to stay in code". I figure most of us push the code a bit. It's a good thing to know the law, but like Roman mentioned, don't get pissy with the LEOs as it may ruin your weekend.
