Rehab

Since I don't have enough vehicle projects of my own, I solicited a co-worker to let me rehab his junk over the summer :roll:

It's a 1972 CJ-5, and when I got it, she was BONE stock... The current owner has had it for about 12 years, and it's been in a garage for every day of those 12 years. Unfortunately, the previous owner lived on the coast, so the body had some pretty serious rot that he attempted to repair. Most of it was good enough, but some of it just wasn't going to cut it and I had to perform some sheetmetal surgery. Anyhow, the rest of it is basic modifications and repairs:

* new brakes all around
* engine gaskets/seals
* fresh fluids
* 2" Skyjacker suspension lift
* 31" Pro-Comp Xtreme A/T's on 15x8 steelies
* new seats and mounting brackets
* new speedo head and wiring
* rear bumper and tire carrier
* diamond plate dress-up items

There are still a few things he wants me to address, but I was cleaning out the shop over the weekend and decided to snap some pics. It's like a trip down memory lane with this sweetheart...

Looks great, like the tire carrier, wish I had gone with a 3" piece attached to the hinge on mine. You make the diamond plate pieces yourself? If so, how'd you bend them? Want to do something similar, and I'm going to have to do so much cutting it might be worth it to start from scratch.

Straight out of the Quadrajunk catalog. I had to do some cutting/fitting to get them to line up with the tailgate, and also cut the hole for the fuel filler neck, but for the most part they were a bolt, err, rivet-on affair.

Looks really good. I seem to remember it being in more pieces when I saw it last.

Just noticed how much room those things have in the engine compartment. You could probably start at the top and crawl all the way out the bottom.
