Finally got around to removing the transmission to check on the flexplate and run into this in the pan...






Anyone know if this is worse than normal (80,000 miles on the jeep)? My fluid was a bit burned, but that didn't concern me too much as it works perfectly fine, but the metal goop around the magnet doesn't seem like a good sign.

Some metal is normal but that looks a little excessive. If it still works ok put it back in and start saving money just in case it does fail.

Probably good advice. I've had a few other people tell me it's normal. But I have a hard time believing them. I'm gonna put things back together and get a transmission fund going.
