Super Yanker. . .the stocking stuffer of the year.

Postby OldGreen » Sun Dec 05, 2010 12:22 pm

Some of you have been on our annual Freeze Your Buns Run and know that it can get pretty gnarly. This year was more laid back, with one exception.

Lurch was braking trail in the deep/steep stuff with his locked/loaded Early Bronco (37" MT/Rs) when he lost his tranny. . .a LONG ways from base camp. Since Lee (little Rubicon on 33s) was at the end of the line, he drew the short straw to tow Tim back to the trailer. Well, I was busy BBQing and sledding with the kids back at our base camp, but I threw the Super Yanker in with Lurch because we hadn't had the chance to use it in the race truck yet (I really try not to get stuck). So, for a good test, Lee hooked up Lurch's Bronco and away they went!! If any of you have had to tow a heavier vehicle through very deep snow (3' plus) you know how much of a challenge it can be. This time, however, the kinetic action of the rope kept things moving every time the Bronco fell in a hole. In fact, Lurch started getting bored and decided that he would TRY to get Lee stuck. He was slamming on the brakes and steering into the ditch. Lee just kept yanking him back onto the trail. At one point, Lee said he looked back and there was snow coming over the Bronco's hood in the ditch. . .the kinetic action of the Super Yanker just kept him going. At any rate, everyone was super impressed and several people are hoping to find Super Yankers under the tree this year. www.masterpull.com

Jim, was that a 3/4" 20 footer? I'm about to pull the trigger on this, and I'm thinking 7/8" 20' or 30'. Thoughts?

Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

No, you read a testimonial. Thanks for asking.

Yes, you read a testimonial which is a common advertising method usually used in late night infomercials. Thanks for asking.

Fixed it for ya.

The difference is that I wasn't paid for the effort. In fact, Master Pull doesn't even know this site exists.

Just so we're clear, I do want people to buy Super Yankers. Why?

1. They work and I want people I know to have stuff that works.

2. I know the people at Master Pull and want their business to do well.

3. Several members of the club that runs this website are on a race team that is sponsored in a very, very small part by Master Pull.

Why in the world would anyone have a problem being recommended to a good product? Do you not want good stuff?

If there is a crime hear I'm equally guilty. This is from my run report.

All the forums I post on are full of guys trying to convince everyone the junk they bought is the best junk. Nobody says it if they don't believe it. I like that Super Yanker and am looking to buy one... if it was junk I wouldn't have said otherwise. Want to lift a TJ? You'll think I'm a salesman for DPG. ;-)

Sorry, sponsorship is money (number 3 on the list), even if only product was supplied, which makes for a bias recommendation.

My comments above have nothing to do with Master Pull but in general, if you have the sticker on your race rig, then most likely you are a paid spokes person.

Thank you. Wheeling with people who truly want you to get home in one piece is the only way to go.

So what? By the same logic you are implying that I would lead my friends astray for the sake of a corporate relationship. Gosh, that's not very nice.

Master Pull helped us at one race. . . I hope that they want to come back for more, but if not, they are friends that have great product. Period.

Let's talk specifics since everyone is such an authority on my motives:

We run Sway A Way Racerunner Shocks. They are a great product, but they have terrible customer service. We removed their stickers from our truck and don't promote them even though they offer prize money to those that do. Now, we are giving them another chance because our latest experience was good. Maybe they are turning over a new leaf. . . but I am biased.

We use belts and fire suits from DJ Safety. They are fantastic to deal with and give us a GREAT deal, but they will do that with or without the sticker. We choose to run a sticker because it is the right thing to do. They also give our friends and fans a good deal. Anybody need harnesses for their wheeler? Again, they don't give us a dime and we SPEND money with them.

We bought our radios from *another Vendor*. . .but we run stickers from PCI Race Radios. . .care to guess why that is? We've SPENT money with them but NEVER have gotten a dime in product or cash from them. They don't even give us a discount. Yep, that's right, they SAVED OUR a$$ and never asked for anything in return.

How about Goodyear and Ford? Sure, we promote them both. MT/Rs are great tires and Ford, as far as I know, is the ONLY manufacturer that is actively involved in promoting the off-road lifestyle outside of just making vehicles that fit the mold. Heck, I even got the Ford Off-Road/Grassroots manager to come to Winter Convention all the way from Deerborn, MI. .yeah, they are good people. Goodyear did sponsor our tires when we raced with BITD. Neither of them are supplying anything right now, although I hope to change that soon. It will never have anything to do with the fact that I promote them to my friends.

Bottom line: I don't race NASCAR and I don't race for money. I SPEND a serious amount of money to race. I only enter into relationships with companies that I would promote for free. This is a hobby for now anyway. Even if it wasn't, I'd still feel the same way. Business is all about relationships and if you give misguided advice to those that trust you. . .you are screwed.

I'm a fan of real estate; beach front or National Forest adjacent. I wonder if I can work out a sponsorship.

Is it bad that I don't want ANY sponsors for anything? If I can't do on my own it's not worth doing IMO. :D

You might want to rethink that.

A "sponsorship" doesn't mean that you didn't do it yourself. There are NO handouts. We have worked very hard for the companies that we represent. (no, that doesn't mean direct promotion outside of racing)

Your job sponsors your paycheck in the same way. You work for it. The only difference is the form you get at the end of the year looks a little different.
