**New Oregon's Paisley 400 thread**
Many people have been asking for it so here it is. Central Oregon Desert Racing (CODRA) is still moving forward, not as fast as we would like but we are making progress. We WILL NOT give up on this until we have a sucessful event here in Oregon.
For those of you that don't know about us and/or haven't read our previous thread about the race I'll try and bring you up to speed. We (CODRA) were on track to have our race last year but we endend up needing to postpone the race due to a local conservation group putting pressure on the BLM. The conservation group's claims were that the BLM needed to do a thorough study on our area of operations and that it was a "Citizen's proposed wilderness" area. As upset as we (and many many other people) were about this we understood that things had to be done the right way and we didn't want to adversly affect the desert that we all love to play in any more than the conservation group does. So we pushed the race to 2011. Now for the postive stuff.
Like I said before, we are still on track to have the Paisley 400 this year. We recently recieved some official news from the BLM office in Paisley's jurisdiction. The findings were that our area of operations does not have wilderness character and will not be declared a wilderness. To some this may not seem like much but for us this is huge. All that is needed is for the BLM to finish up the Environmental Assement (EA) and put our permit up for the thirty day comment period. We are expecting to have a fight on our hands during the comment period but we are more than prepared to fight back. On to the race details.
We are planning to have the race on June 25th, 2011 in Paisley, Oregon. Paisley is a very small but very likeable community in south central Oregon. It is a high desert (nearly a mile high in elevation) community full of great people. CODRA's mission as a not-for-profit is to help support some of these struggling rural towns in Oregon by bringing in tourism dollars and by donating 100% of our proceeds to various causes. Proceeds and donations raised at the Paisley 400 will be donated to the public school in Paisley. The school is in dire need of funds and repair. We hope to help.
The race will be just over 400 miles long and is a loop race. All classes will be racing; motorcycles, utv's, quads, cars, trucks, KOH, etc... Not all classes will be running the full 400 miles (4 laps) and motorcycles/quads/utv's will be starting before the cars and trucks for safety reasons. So get your race cars and trucks ready for an epic event in the beautiful high desert of Oregon and help us show everyone that we can have a safe,fun, and successful event that can benefit a lot of good people in need.
