Anyone have access to a press?

Need to pull my driver's side rear axle shaft and pull off/press on a bearing, retainer ring, and axle seal as my seal is currenty leaking. Got all the parts just need to pull the shaft and get this done.

This along with the new to me trackbar will get me back on the road till I figure out a new rear axle swap.

Well. ..if you read the factory service manual for a D44, it will tell you to "score" the retainer ring and bearing and then hit it with a chisel to get it off. What that means is that you slice it with a skinny wheel until it is just about through. . .then get a big chisel and a heavy hammer and wack it. . .then it just slides off. Be very, very careful not to get into the shaft.

To put it back on, you can find the aforementioned press from a friend or go down and have Leo's line-up do it for about 25 bucks OR find a chunk of tubing that fits over the shaft (think roll cage tubing) and drive the whole works on with that. Just make sure that it goes on straight.

I'll use the cutting wheel for sure as I just got one for christmas, lol.

25 bucks doesn't sound too bad. I've done the old hammering it on trick and I'd rather just have everything pressed on this time.

You can often get the bearings to virtually drop in place if you heat them with something like a hot plate before installation.
