St. Nick

Postby Grumpy » Sat Apr 30, 2011 10:46 am

For those of you who know him, Nick Osiek, the puffer Scout nut, has had a stroke, and is in the hospital in PA. He has lost the use of his right side, and is having trouble talking. Beth is with him, and I have asked John to try and get her to call if she has a chance. It wasn't a clot on the brain, but John can't remember just what the Doc called it. I'll update as I can. Please keep the old fart in your thoughts.

Nick is being flown back to St. Louis today via Medevac. John said he sounds much better, and sends many thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers! I'll get more info as soon as I can...Also, during the course of things, it's been mentioned that Nick and Beth would like to retire around here. Pretty cool, I think!

John called, and Nick is back in St. L. I should have contact info tomorrow. He's tired, but relieved to be back in familiar surroundings.

Nick called Wed. evening and talked my ear off :!: His speech is mildly slurred, but it's for sure nick  He is doing well with rehab, and sounds pretty serious about it. Seems there's an issue with his heart that he wasn't aware of, and that caused the stroke. Said the evening it happened, he kept feeling worse, and finally drove himself to the hospital. Then it really got bad! I'll pass on trying to explain, as I expect he'll be on here before too much longer. He can handle that part. Just glad the boy is home with Beth, and on the mend 8)

I wish the best!!

Like Danny, my mother also had a stroke five years ago that left her unable to communicate either verbal or written other than simple verbal things like yes, no, and stuff like that. Pretty tragic things those strokes.

I talkied to Nick Saturday, and he's doing much better! Speech is a bit slurred, but otherwise good. He's in PT, and it sounds like his response is good as well. He thinks he should be doing better, but then Nick can be a mite impatiant at times
