MY house A/C unit won't get any cooler than 79 degrees in the house. After looking at all the obvious stuff like the HVAC filter, I'm thinking I need to recharge the refrigerant.

I'm sure this will cost a few hundred bucks at least but which company out there do you guys prefer? I've thought about doing it myself but you can't just go to the hardware store for freon and its expensive along with the tools I'd need.

I've had good luck with cambell and company.

I work wholesale in the industry and with campbell you gonna pay alot. I would recomend chinook htg or a-one. they are both a bit smaller than campbell, if you go with a-one tell them john jobin sent you and you might get a better deal. cant promise that tho.

Ours is on the fritz, too. Just had the guy here, and the freon isn't moving. Might check that...

if the compressor is getting power and the refrigerant is not moving, it is going to be expensive

Might be as simple as a fuse, like ours. They said it was full of sand/dust and it blew a fuse....

should have about a 20deg temp difference between return and supply air, check filter clean indoor and outdoor coils. feel the lineset big line should be cool to cold and the little line should be warm to hot. new filter, make sure you have air flow if no air flow make sure your indoor coil isnt an ice ball, make sure return air vent isnt covered or pluged, simple stuff like that can help give an idea of whats happening or save you some money.

$154.87 for an A/C recharge. Not too bad. I had checked the filter and everything else you guys mentioned. He said the unit was holding pressure and it was probably a tiny leak somewhere. Told me with the age of the unit to not bother doing the leak test and just put in more refrigerant as it was low.

The guy didn't even try to sell me anything like they mostly do. Just told me to watch and see how long it lasts as these old units develop leaks over 15 years or so. Mine's an early 80's Lennox so I'm working on saving up for a new system anyway.

Was it a tall and thin guy named Dan? That is who I was going to recommend.

No, but I think I talked to him on the phone. I was thrilled to have them get everything done in 20mins.
