Well, the transmission in my superduty is on its last legs. Slipping if I push it in 2nd and the fluid is burned up. For those who don't know, its a 2002 F250, 7.3 Diesel with a 4R100 auto.

What are your suggestions? I'm not interested in spending $4500 on a BTS trans. It's not a race truck and I don't tow 20k lbs. So, what are some of the reasonable options out there?

I'd have to think a 6 speed conversion would be a helluva lot less than $4500...

It really depends on wether or not you plan to keep the truck for a while. If you plan to keep it forever step up and buy the ats trannny and put a big trans cooler in it. You may not be pulling 20k pounds but I do know that thing is chipped up with an exhaust on it so it is still seeing alot of stress.
Ford also sells a reman trans with a 3 year 100k waranty on it. If your intrested I can check on prices but if I remember right it was around $3000-3500. But it won't have a billet converter or any of the other cool things that the ats has.
If your not going to keep it long call paw and throw a used trans in it and hope it works.

I got my trans rebuilt in Cali for 1500 and it is still going strong 5 years later. It is a E4OD though. But a simple rebuild might be worth it. How long did your truck make on the current trans? Try and find a reputable trans shop and see about a rebuild

Don. . .I've seen you drive. Spend the money. Doing rolling burnouts with a trailer can't be good on a stock tranny.

A $1500 tranny rebuild on a e4od is scary. It cost me more then that just in parts when I did mine. Even with my discount.

I'd go with a rebuild or a reman trans. I got the reman E40D which would have been $3200. The 6 speed sounds like a good option if you can let your truck sit awhile and do the swap.

If you're going to keep your truck chipped I'd get a trans gauge if you don't already have one and watch your temps. (I've heard the factory one can be inaccurate) Also throw in a shift kit in it.

I think I'm going this route. It sounds like these guys do a pretty decent job. Even comes with new cooler.

Make sure you spend the money for a good billet torque converter. That is what usually fails first in those transmissions. Especially behind a diesel.
