Ohio is getting better

Postby 79chevy39.5's » Mon Oct 08, 2007 8:14 pm

today picked up a 89 chevy 1500 stepside for $700 runs readl stong not too bad overall condition. I also got hired on in the last 2 days for 2 jobs (finaly) Im gunna try to work them both unless it doesnt work out.

and the best part is Im working with a guy that has a cj in Indiana its a 73 with a 304 that runs and drives and has good brakes little bit of rust but nothing bad at all. its already got a cage a 4" lift but rollers on it for tires and the best part is he told me my winch and $750 and its mine. so im hoping to pick it up as soon as I get my truck and winch here in November.

Yup, Saggy box. That cross brace above it will need to turn into a square tube to make the front of the frame hold better, and build up the spring hangers. AND GET THAT BODY LIFT OUT Nice score, Bubba

so far on the list of to dos
1 pick it up
2 fix rust and remove body lift and fix wiring looks like a mess
3 get some decent tires (im thinkin either 34" ltbs or some like 33-35" coopers so i can flat tow it)
4 get some disk front brakes
5 maybe weld up the rear and get a lsd for the front

and tossed in the whole mix is tinker on it and get it set up like id like it some harnesses and front and rear bumper and box tube the front crossmember (like dave told me too)

Why a LSD for the front? A lunch box locker would be the same price and not require setting up the gears again, or just save for a selectable locker. I'm not a big fan of LSD, yes they help but once in the now they bring the suck.

Why fix the rear rust, just cut it out and move the fuel tank up, I'm thinking a Subaru has more ground clearance with that tank hanging down.

for the front i was thinking i would be able to pick one up real cheap and hadnt thought about the setup i dont want to lock the dana 30 up with a 304, manual tranny, some 34-35" tires and me behing the wheel. that tank i ginormic as for fixing the rust i was mostly thinking about the side where someone put a plate over it since i will probly be flat towin this baby around ill be throwin in a smaller tank and just bring along extra when needed the back valence will be cut out and covered with a bumper

Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.
