Okay so I've found (not purchased yet a couple of Cobra CBs at Wally world, $35 ea... Now where's the best place to get an antenna and cable and possibly and inexpensive portable SWR metter?

If you haven't got 'em yet, I'd recommend you find Uniden 510's instead. Seems the Cobra in my pickup ain't all it's cracked up to be...Try the CB Shop at 20th & Lewis in Pasco for ears.

If you are unfamiliar in the ways or the CB, then the Uniden 510 is your BEST BET! Reliable, inexpensive, dependable . . . I could go on, but you get the idea

510, 510, 510 (once you played around with Radios, look to the 520, but start with the 510.)

I see the guys here are all recommending Uniden 510's. I've never used one but I've had great luck with the cheap Wally World Cobra. I also get a great range for use on the trail. The secret is in the brand of the antenna, the tuning, and how good your ground is at the mount.

I went with a 4' Firestick II, a spring that lets the antenna bend so it doesn't snap off, and 20 feet of cable from Ranch and Home and borrowed an SWR meter from a friend to get it set right. I believe that guy in Pasco will also tune antennas.

I'd say if the Uniden 510's are not too expensive then you might want to look at those too as I would not doubt the word of the guys on the board. In fact I might see about getting a Uniden 510 or 520 for the truck so I have a good comparison.

And, the Unidens have a metal case. Aren't the Cobras plastic?

Yes they are, but I'm not exactly dropping mine out of the Jeep or kicking it with my feet.

My Cobra is made of metal but it is older than some of your NotAToyota(s).
