Now I've gone and done it.....

I've been needing a second car ever since I sold my old one to my brother. The smart choice woulda been a Grand Cherokee, but I don't have kids and the dumb choice is more fun.

Drove this home from Yakima today. Engine and trans seem to be in great shape (ran great) - they were both suppossedly rebuilt about 3000 miles ago.

Didn't get an under hood pic as I was a bit distracted.

1967 Coupe
289 w/4 barrel carb
C4 Auto
Red Primer
Shot drivers side quarter panel
Manual drums all around and no power steering
and some horribly ugly wiring.

First off, I need to sort through the boxes of trim/grill parts and find a good place to get body work done. Then the drivetrain will get some attention, new brakes and a t5 trans to start.

Anyone know any good body shop places? Think I might check out horse heaven in Benton city to see the high side of things.

Yup, just trying to decide what kit to get or if I should put together a junk yard setup. Thinkin about doing disc's all around just becuase I hate adjusting or doing just about anything with drums.

Other option is to install a Mustang II frontend so that I can get powersteering and power brakes at the same time. Still researchin.

ETA: Mustang II looks like a bad idea now that I've done some more reading. I'm looking for a good reliable daily driver, I think one of the cheaper brake kits is a better idea.

Yeah, for brakes I think I'd go with easy. Bet you find a fair number of bolt ons. I'm a big fan of restomod to get modern driving dynamics, but not of big fugly 20's and such. We put discs and air bags on Steve's '55, and it really made a change for the better. Tim, Jose, Adam, Lee, and I forget who all had a big hand in that mess.

Yeah, I'd like new rims as I'm not really a fan of the bicycle spokes look - but all that can come later - and 14" should get the job done just fine. I couldn't imagine making it down my bumpy driveway with those nasty 20" rims. I'll be replacing the lights, fuse box (a modern blade style under the hood will be much nicer), and gauge cluster (maybe digital). That will probably be the extent of my modernizing outside of drivetrain stuff.

Probably not that much. The guy I bought it from was talking about putting a mustang II front end in, that's how suspension changing ideas got into my head. Said he didn't like the handling up over 60mph.

Of course my scale for a good handling vehicle is all out of wack. When you spend most of your time on the highway in a lifted TJ with 35's and stock steering the mustang seems like it couldn't be smoother.

Think I'll stick with new brakes, a manual trans, body work, and paint for now. Fancy steering and control arms can come later if I ever see the need.
