Good example of why rollcages are important.

Ouch.
The victim was approximately half way up the hill when it is believed that the gears in the rear differential of the vehicle broke, causing the Land Rover to roll backwards down the hill. The Land Rover then rolled over and came to a rest on its top. The victim was trapped under the vehicle.
At last report the victim sustained several fractured ribs and lower back fractures. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening.

It used to be a pretty common to swap in Toyota differentials to replace the stupid weak rover junk. That's sad.

Guys, I have this in the members section. I put it there so as to not give the wrong folks any ammo from this site. With your leave, I'd prefer to have this taken down. Yeah, I know, public info, I just would prefer we don't advertise it. Too many other sites will do that, and there's more bad publicity for us "bad" people...

Point taken. I tend to get a mite touchy at times. Seen too much seemingly innocent crap get blown WAY out of proportion. And yes, them greens got themselves a bunch of knotheads like me trolling for anything they can twist to serve their somewhat subversive purposes. I've even chatted with a couple of 'em

I didn't think there was anything really provocative about it. The guy was on a legal trail, not doing anything illegal, and the unexpected happened. The only problem I saw was he didn't have a rollcage and he paid the price for not having it.
I see this as a reminder to make sure your safety equipment is up to snuff and be prepared for the worst, it happens sometimes.

I know that hill is steep and a little slick with the spring.
If he lost all power to the rear wheels, and they fee wheeled instead of locking up, I'm sure the front wheel wouldn't hold. Panic a little, get a little momentum going, over correct a little, hit a rut and over you go. I see no problem with how he ended up that way. Steering going down hill backwards is always fun.
It's also amazing how not having power to a wheel and how much of an anchor that wheel becomes. I ran a welded front for a while and with 3 wheeldrive, I couldn't make it over some obstacles just because that wheel wouldn't pull. Something similar could have happened with no power to the rear, hit a rock, rut, whatever, that wheel stops spins the rig.
Another way, the rear did lock and basically had no control coming down.
Being a 74 and the stock looking nature of the rig, I'm sure drums all the way around and there is water not far from that hill, wet brakes don't work well either.

I don't want to know how you think it might have happened. I can infer on my own.
I want to know how it ACTUALLY happened.
