Salty no Tire Run

This week my family and I visited my folks on their boat in Blaine, WA. It is a large motor sailor and has very comfortable accommodations.
This is the very first time I got the opportunity to sail it. Some of you that know me know that sailing is one of my first loves, but it has been a long time (too long) since I have had helm, tiller or sheets in my hands.
Like any run, the pictures don't do it justice. With three sails up in 15 knot winds (gusting to 20) in the Strait of Georgia the side windows were in the water and water came over the bow (while I was checking the rigging on the bow none-the-less.)
It was a fun week. Upon our arrival in Blaine, Dad and I went out and checked his crab traps in the bay and brought in a limit of large crabs. That's dinner for me and crab to take on the next camping trip.
Tuesday we sailed in the Strait. Wednesday was a tour of Blaine starting with morning mass. It seems everybody in town knows my folks by first name. A little electrical work on the boat and then a picnic with the family in Canada. (We walked into Canada.) That afternoon Dad took the Jeeper chicks out to see the harbor seals with Chris.
...and then a pizza dinner to celebrate Chris' -- [edited for age] birthday.
Thursday we made the mistake of taking the scenic route home. The 15 miles from Everett to Monroe took us an hour due to the Evergreen Fair traffic. There was construction leading up to, on, and after Stevens Pass. We were absolutely stopped for 1/2 an hour waiting for giant dump trucks to haul earth up the road 20 miles out of Leavenworth.
All an all a great week and end to summer. Next year we are going to go earlier and sail the boat to Friday Harbor, if for no other reason, I know there is a decent micro-brewery there.
