For our truck drivers...

Postby Grumpy » Fri Dec 13, 2013 11:06 am

Some bad news for independent truck drivers, business people with in-house transportation, trucking companies, and the public in general. This information in from a medical practice. The DOT physical will not be routinely covered by Obamacare and, what matters more yet, many doctors won't be able to provide the physicals anyway. It seems new requirements for medical professionals and the new classes, mandatory and unpaid for, demanded of doctors are just not economically feasible for the medical profession. In addition, the medical profession is strictly hostage to the demands of their own malpractice insurance coverage. Much of the burden put on the medical profession via Obamacare regulations will not be covered. Some of the bigger trucking companies are trying to make arrangements with a doctor to do DOT physicals for their employees en masse. My understanding is that some of the smaller trucking companies are trying to piggy-back with those bigger companies. If this is successful I hope that there will be some kind of consortium for small business and independents, but it is quite a quagmire of government regulation. At any rate the one who loses the most is the independent driver, the employee driver ... and of course their middle-class families. CDL holders need to discuss this with their doctors ahead of time.

Pols may be able to ignore economic reality in their policy making, but they won't be able to ignore it long in the application of these poor policies. Don't see this as an attack on "big business" or even "business" in general. This will make YOUR life tougher and more expensive. Don't think so? Ask yourself who brings your food to the store, who brings your purchases to their destination store where you choose and purchase, who delivers your .com purchases? Count the trucks on your commute today - everyone is negatively affected by this

Physical card is $64 every 2 years. Most employers pay it anyway so its not that big of a deal.

There are MUCH bigger fish to fry when it comes to oblahblah care than this.

Sorry Dave, but I'm with Trashy on this one. Most companies I know already pay for their employee's physicals, so what's the beef? What are we missing?
