Schwartz Canyon, OR
I'm headed off to Schwartz Canyon near Prineville, OR next weekend and am wondering if anyone has experience wheeling there? It will be my first trip there and I'd appreciate any insights you care to offer. Thanks!

I'd love to hear about it too. We lived there for 10 years I believe they punched the trail through after we left though. My jeep is still built for that general area. bfg crawlers are the best type of tire for the area along with toyo mud contry and pit bull. Lots of sharp rocks. Should be a blast. If you're going with anyone from Deschutes county 4 wheelers tell them klinger says hi.

So... enjoyed the trip to Schwartz Canyon. Overall the area is hilly with plenty of trees and is not particularly technical with the exception of one little side canyon segment near the entrance / west end and north of Schwartz Rd (gravel). Below is a link to a photo bucket album that contains maps and photos of the terrain in this rocky area. The rocky ledge at the top of the butte breaks off and falls to the canyon floor to provide the "rock garden." The area is not very large and is likely more suitable for smaller groups. There is ample space to dry camp up near the entrance into the OHV area. There are some poser pictures in the album... we were having fun celebrating a 16 year old's birthday on the trip.
