Has anyone rebuilt a WARN 8274? If so, about what would it cost in parts to DIY??? And... what should a decent used one go for? And... is there any reason you shouldn't use synthetic rope on it?

i use synthetic and love it. no burrrs. it floats. it can be easily repaired. there are more bennys but i'm preocccupied right now.

I rebuilt mine and used rope and new style contactor pack. Not including buying the winch I spent about $800.

Warn Guy

I took a long drive yesterday and bought a completely rebuilt (Exceeds Warn original specs) 8274, from a guy who just happens to have retired from Warn after 30 some years, and now sort of rescues and rebuilds 8274's to supplement his retirement.

Apparently he can get the parts from Warn at some ridiculous price and turns these out between $800 & $900 depending on whats been done to them.

I picked mine up yesterday in West Linn last night, it looks like a brand new 8274 for $900, and I happen to know he has another for $900 ready to go as well. This thing has brand new cable, is repaint/powder coated and polished up very nicely. New controller, new hook and cables, can't wait to get it on Julia...

Mine is stock, 150'. Ben's is (was) widened by 4". He put 200' on it but it would have easily gone to 250'.
