2 Post lifts

Postby scumby » Sun Feb 22, 2015 7:33 am

Seems to be a lot of knowledge on here, so school me on lifts. what do I need to look for? I see a bunch on ebay relatively cheap but are they safe?

base plate or clear base. symmetric or asymmetric. 7k, 8k or 9k+. I've read something about direct drive is that in contrast to indirect drive?

are they easy to install?

Lurch, give me yours and problem solved.

http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/ATPK-PV12P

We just got this one in January I set it up. Got the widest and tallest we could

Clear base....if you pull transmissions basplate gets in the way. Direct drive is 2 cyl pushing up each column indirect uses the cables to pull the columns up instead of just timing the lifts. Id get at least a 10k (diesel trucks are 8 plus depending and can get to 10k fast)

You get what you pay for. I wouldn't even consider anything rated under 9000 lbs. You may not plan on lifting anything more then your jeep now but you never know what the future holds. Try to stick with a more industrial brand such as rotatary.

The new 15k lifts we put in at work are really sweet. But pretty spendy.

My brother put in a 9 clear base. It gas a ram on both sides and cables. It works lifting quad cab long box diesels but we don't get under them without big jack stands stabilizing both ends.

One thing to keep in mind is all the things that go along with the lift. Extended height oil drain, big stands with a screw jack feature is incredibly handy as is a big tranny jack. We've used the stands and trans jack for literally hundreds of random uses.

Not sure but it's blue and yellow just like 80% of them.

I know he paid $1800 shipped brand new though. I've looked around a bit and summit has an 11k 2 stage front, 3 stage rear arm w i d e unit for $3200 that I thought looked solid.

i'm looking more in the below 2k range. i know it's been said to go big but i'm thinking an 8k or 9k should suffice.

That looks exactly like my brothers in every detail. My money says it's the same lift.

Probably work for what you want. I need something heavier for what I do. I need to be able to lift and stand under a 1 ton diesel without worrying about it falling on me.

It's rated at 9k and since the diesels that have been on it were so freaking long we used big stands to stabilize them. No problems doing clutches in the pair of 4x4 trucks with 6 speeds.

The only real reason I'd go heavier personally is to get a wider window between the posts.

I've already got a rotary. I'm just saying as far as the quality of the lift I wouldn't trust it with as much as I use one. Besides I got mine during the remodel for The price of scrap 8)

I just installed one in january....14 foot tall model was quite interesting getting it together over the rafters.

Youll want at least one set extra hands 2 good quality ladders ( tall ones) and buy good anchors for your floor thickness
