CLOUT alert - DNR Trails policy

Postby Grumpy » Mon Sep 14, 2015 4:48 pm

Posting this here in hopes more of our folks will see it. This is important!!

On March 28, 2014, Engrossed Substitute House Bill 2151, requested and
supported by OHV user activists, was signed into law. The main component of
this bill directs DNR to develop a recreational trail policy in partnership
with user groups and the public, and to adopt the policy by October 31,
2015.

The DNR started the public review and comment period for their draft policy
today, 9-14-15 and it will go through September 28, 2015.

One of your CLOUT system volunteers was on the user group committee formed
by the DNR. They were disappointed that the DNR personnel facilitating the
meetings of that committee comprised of all trail user types;

- Arbitrarily eliminated items the user group committee members and
prior public comments stated were needed in this trail policy. (DNR staff's
interpretation of SHB 2151 was that they were required to obtain user group
and public comment but retained the authority to ignore anything they did
not agree with.)

- DNR staff never collated the immense amount of prior public comment
previously received for use by the user groups committee. It appeared the
DNR just round filed (into a random web compilation) all of that public
comment.

Now it is your turn to take a look at the DNR's draft Trail Policy and
submit your comments/suggestions directly to the DNR. You can also review
the prior public and committee input details using the hot links on their
current trail policy web page.

We also suggest that you send a copy of your comments/suggestions directly
to each of your personal legislators using the Legislative link provided
below to contact one of them and Cc: the other two using that function on
that website.

Use this link to REVIEW the DRAFT Trail Policy and send your comments to the
DNR using http://www.dnr.wa.gov/trailspolicy

and please send a copy of it to your personal legislators using
http://app.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder/

Enter your message (you can copy and paste it into their form).

DO check the box sending your comments to ALL of your personal
legislators.

Thank YOU!
