Super Short SYE coming.....Questions

Postby Lud » Sat Mar 05, 2016 10:24 am

The JB conversions super short SYE and Rokmen tummy tuck tcase skid plate should be coming this week. Never done this project before, but I've done some reading on what it entails.

When I'm done, I'll need a new CV drive shaft and was wondering what's a good place to get one?

Also it looks like my rear output shaft has a harmonic balancer on it. How do I get this thing off? Looks like I could run some bolts into it to pull it but I'm not sure.

Any advice you have or tools I should to tackle this project would be greatly appreciated.

The 3 bolts are the trick to pushing the damper off. Take your time and work them in a pattern and it'll be fine. Slow and steady wins the race...

You'll want some good snap ring pliers, outside of that just basic hand tools and some RTV.

I've built most of my own CV shafts using a front shaft from an XJ as the starting point. If you want to order one, it's hard to beat Tom Woods.
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

Rangers and Explorers are good donors too. I started getting drivelines from them as PAW went on a XJ smashing spree!

When I did my SYE (Leonard actually, I watched and handed him tools :D ), we destroyed two pairs of cheapo snap ring pliers. Ed the toolman to the rescue! He sold me a nice Matco set out of his truck on a Sunday. 8)
You are more than welcome to borrow them.
