Soft Tops

What did you buy? Where did you get it? How much? Do you like it or is it a piece of junk?

My original soft top got torn up good a few years back. Picked up the fabric to have a complete top for the time being. I now plan to use it as a trail top with the upper doors and buy a whole new top with another set of upper soft doors.

Looking at frameless tops like the trektop nx and the rampage top or possibly just another complete soft top with hardware.

I have a Bestop Trektop NX on my JKU and I like it. It's never sealed well, and makes a fair amount of noise, but it weighs a helluva lot less than the hard top and looks better than the stock soft top (which also didn't seal well). Mine is on its third year and doesn't show much sign of wear. If you want, they come with glass windows...but I'm happy with the plastic ones. When it does finally go, I expect I'll replace it with the exact same top. I like it that much.

I helped Lee put his NX top on his LJ once, ONCE!

Not a fan of the NX on the TJ/LJ platform, the JK top is different.
If your going dual top, might as well go all the way! Hard top...

With the price of new soft tops, a clean used top starts to loo a lot better. I was in the same boat, about to drop $900~ on a YJ hard top because new Supertops have jumped in price since I got the one for my Scrambler. A buddy caught an ad on CL that I missed, a "NIB" Supertop with Trail cover and "Bimini" top (damn boat guys) for $300
Well it wasn't "new", but it was in the box, and hadn't ever been installed, and after having a mouse hole patched at Final Touch :thu: it's as good as new. Well, half as good I guess. :lol2

There's a difference between the Supertop NX and the Trektop NX.

The Supertop comes with all new hardware and I've heard it's a PITA to put on and the hardware is different than the factory and doesn't work as well.

The Trektop NX has no hardware and just runs over the rollbars similar to the rampage top. It's more of a fastback look. It also has just the front section fold back like a sunroof.

No experience with either, but my constant lurking on many forums would make me definitely pick the "NX" version of either top.
I believe the NXs have attached factory style headers with latches vs the bikini top style separate header with a lip groove. PITA I've read many times on the old style.
Lee may be able confirm.

New Bestop ordered. It will be here Friday. Amazon had a pretty sweet deal plus a $100 rebate.

. The top is great. Went with the Bestop and installed in the sun. In case anyone else is wondering I paid $525 total with $100 mail in rebate, including the tinted windows, sailcloth and upper doors. Best price I've ever seen on Amazon. This top is usually close to 800 bucks.

8) Very nice Rob. Looks great. Keeping your old one for a wheeling top is a great idea too.
