PNW4WDA-Region 4 Public Releation Person

Postby SPR » Sun May 15, 2016 7:34 am

FYI... I copied this from an email I received from Earl Nettnin. I imagine anyone can get on the email list for the updates otherwise I can copy and post Jim's updates on the PP Board.

Good Evening:

Region 4 PNW Director Earl Nettnin appointed Jim Hall the new PR person for Region 4. Jim is tasked with insuring Region 4 PNW information is shared with members, the media, land owners, and our elected officials.

Please let me introduce myself. My name is Jim Hall I live in Selah WA, married, three children, 7 grandchildren, etc. Retired from Yakima County after 40 years. Been wheeling off and on sense high school. About 2 years ago joined The Jeeping Nomads and PNW, so I am a really a new guy. Becoming more involved largely with the help of Ron Rutherford.

Enough about me. I have several things that need to be passed on:

The Amateur radio clubs I could find on this side of the Cascades. Most
of them do have classes and offer testing. You do not need to take the
class from them in order to test.
Some may have specific testing sessions. Our scheduled testing is the
first Saturday of the month following our club meeting. Also I do them
anytime at my home with a 2-3 day notice.
I do have a scheduled exam at our Hamfest (swap meet) in Dryden June 11
http://www.qrz.com has a link to online practice tests. These are the
actual test questions with answers. The actual test consists of 35
questions pulled from the pool you'd go through online.

Gordon West Amateur books are the best, in my opinion. Amazon.com is the
cheapest if seen
Classes are free. We're not allowed to charge a fee. This is a FCC rule.
Testing is $14 or $15 per session depending on the testing agency the
examiners are under. ARRL is $15, W5YI is $14. Test questions are from
the same source.

There are other sites too. Google Ham radio tests
