shocks?

Is stepping up to the more expensive shocks worth it for the ride quality?

Just a single body without a remote reservoirs.

To be used on a YJ with 2.5-3.5" lift springs.

I ran cheap Skyjacker hydros for many years. Soft ride and ok for most trails. If there were whoops, they would fade out fast. Pretty worthless out at Juniper. The Fox 2.0 shocks I have now in the rear perform much better. And the Fox Reservoir shocks up front I bought from OG are simply awesome.

If your springs are relatively soft and flexy, the difference is night and day. If you have stiff lift springs, you can't cure lumber wagon. . .
