Metal Chunks in Diff Fluid.

Postby SPR » Fri Jun 26, 2020 11:51 am

It’s been a few years and many hard miles since I changed the differential fluid in the Toyota axles. Sadly the rear fluid was milky... even after a second change a few days later. Possible worse, the plugs for the front differential had a pile of metallic chunks stuck to the magnets on the plugs for first lube change and the second lube change. I wonder where that stuff is coming from... the arb or ring gear? Perhaps I find out after few more wheeling trips. Everything seems to work fine for now. Here is a photo of the stuff stuck to the fill plug after the second lube change.

Dunno about the chunks of stuff, but you could probably solve the milky fluid thing by driving it around on the road some after a wet wheeling trip. As long as the vent is in good shape.
