Ahtanum Gromming Sitrep?

Postby tobyw » Mon Apr 10, 2023 12:20 pm

Anyone know if the gromming season has been extended this year due to the prolific snowfall, or is it game on for wheeling??
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

About three-four years ago DNR changed the official gate opening date to May 1st instead of April 1st. And they will usually extend the closure into June once it gets close to May 1st. I've given up trying to plan wheeling trips for Darland loop in spring time, multiple times I would pick a date after May 1st and they would just extend the season last minute. I've found it much easier to plan snow trips in National Forest up in the Blue Mountains which are always guaranteed to open April 1st with no grooming season extensions, and far fewer people.

They mention the May 1st date on this official page for Ahtanum forest, and at the top of the page they will also post the extended closure dates. But they usually don't post it until a few days before May 1st.
