Trash and Peanut rolled the Yota up at Naches. The following is off TC regarding what happened. I'll update as info is available.



I just talked to Ixnay and he helped recover trashy's rig. All I know is that he sheared off all of the steering studs driver's side friday night late, up on funny rocks. We followed him out that night and he replaced them with spares, but Matt thinks his steering came apart and they rolled down the switchback ravines on Mill Creek Rd. and hit a few trees. I guess it was a violent roll. He said they were conscious and seemingly okay, i.e. not critical, but really beat up and maybe broken. I called Yakima, Wenatchee and E-burg hospitals and they are not there so I hope they were just discharged. There's zero cell reception up there.

Just talked to Peanut. They're banged up pretty good, but otherwise okay. I'll let her fill in the details...

Just got back from the wheeling up there. Saw Peanut this morning and she said they got back to camp around 5am from the hospital. She said she was doing amazingly fine after taking 3 Aleve. Trash was still sleeping by the time we left this morning.

Wow I hate to hear that. I hope they are ok.

Seems Peanut got a mite behind the guys and sorta lost earlier this evening after she called me to check in. Waycrazy was able to get her headed in the right direction after I called him. I have no clue as to the lay of things up there, so brung in the big guns for help Thanks, Wade

We are fine. The spud shaft pulled out of the hydraulic steering valve beings the cinch bolt holding the splined shaft into the yota steering column came a bit loose.... It pulled out on a slight uphill coming out of one of the washouts so I stopped and put it back in. I grabbed first, banged second and that was all she wrote as that damned shaft pulled out from the yota mighty acceleration... I stood on the clutch and brakes but the 42's make a helluva contact patch at 4 psi so we just slid off the road...


We left the road and free fell about 30 feet landing on the driver top corner of the cage and rolled what we think was 2 3/4 times landing on the passenger side. Took out a couple tree's on the way down that came in through the cage and scraped us up a bit but otherwise we are fine. Peanut is a bit tense anyway and naturally she locked up and pulled a few muscles. I'm fine, just happy to have her safe and sound and still breathing.

My neighbor was there with his rig that had half a chevy leaf pack and a trail side log for a rear passenger leaf spring was ahead of us when it happened as we were following him and a buddy down the mountain after he broke on funny rocks. They noticed we weren't behind them after a couple corners so he backed up and saw the headlights in the ravine.

He came down and we helped Peanut out of the cage and had her sit and drink some water so she could calm down but she was going into shock. we got her up the hill with the aid of a jeep club that was coming down and stopped to see what the commotion was about. We got in my neighbors rig and headed for came where we jumped in our ranger dd and I took her to Yakima to get checked out at the hospital.

We must have made for a sight as we walked into the emergency room both covered in blood, mud and leaves.. They said she may have a sprained clavicle after they x-rayed her and gave her a CT scan. She'll go into the DR here locally if her pain persists.

Our neighbor and a bunch of people that headed up to recover the truck pushed it back onto its wheels and he drove it out of the ravine unassisted which amazes the living hell out of me that it made it under its own power unassisted after that.



So all in all we are fine, a bit bruised and battered but we'll live. The rig is totalled, the cage is bent, the floor is bent, the cab mount on the driver side collapsed, the core support is crushed, a rear main leaf is bent, it cracked a shackle mount in the rear, and worst of all the flamingo is broken.....

I think the frame survived but other than the running gear and possibly the frame its a wasted rig that due to that cage and our lapbelts (yes we'll run with full 5 points on from here on out!) we lived to wheel again. Thank you all for your thoughts, we'll post pics soon of what remains of the rig. Its a face only a mother could tolerate...

I will be home for sure Grumpy. Ry will probably be gone by then though. He has to go load the truck in Boardman. I will get some pics of his damage before he leaves though.

ahhhhh........ really really sorry to hear of your misfortune Ry and am glad to hear that both of you came through it all. When you get your inventory and all taken care of and figure out what you have and what you need to get another yota on the road let me know and I'll help you with whatever I can. Still have spares and stuff around and know of a lot of others that have stuff too. I'll swing by and swap horror stories with you.

Right on, I'm headed out today for Reno but I should be home by thursday or so. Peanut will be home all week as she has it off beings she was planning on wheeling the truck at Rimrock while I was gone this week but I kinda screwed that up...


The truck will be in front of the shop so if anyone wants to come by and laugh at it feel free, peanut should be home to laugh with you.
