The YAY We Aren't Moving Run Report
The YAY We Aren't Moving Run Report
Well, I didn’t take any pictures (per Jose: left the photog to the codog), but I’ll give a textual report anyways…
We left Tri-Cities shortly after 6:00am and rolled into the Yakima Wal-Mart right around 7:30am. We unloaded, dined on some manifold breakfast burritos courtesy of a finely tuned 460cid oven, and headed out for Ellensburg. The freeway trip was nice, with outside temps ranging from about 38 in Yakima to about 28 at the summit. I was very appreciative of the heater and softtop at this point (yes, I am getting old ).
John was the navigator through Ellensburg, and we found our way to FS31 and the Tripod Flats trailhead. We actually aired down on FS31, as the washboard was absolutely incredible, even for a seasoned farm kid like me
The Tripod Flats trail was a nice climb through the trees, with just a few rocky sections to keep us awake. We stopped for some pictures and bladder relief at the turnoff for the Shoestring trail, and heard a few gunshots in the distance from someone on the hunt for the big one.
Once on Shoestring, we found a few tight squeezes through the trees, and I managed to wear the new car smell out of the Rubi by wrinkling a front fender (on the passenger side no less, some codog ). Just before the intersection with the Kaner Flats trail, we spent some time playing around on a rocky little hill. Jose managed to stick his Jeep pretty good, and after a valiant effort decided to take the cable, and we were once again on our way.
We had a nice lunch at a sunny little rock outcropping on Kaner Flats.
From here, we headed South to Lily Pond and once we got there, pulled out the maps and looked at our watches. The decision was made to run Kaner downhill rather than take the Lily Pond trail, so we headed East. In all the times I have traversed Kaner, I have never run in downhill, and I have to say, it’s FAST this way! We ran from Lily Pond to Hwy 410 in a little over an hour, and that was with a few interesting stops along the way (read: Jose got stuck again ).
We aired back up at Whistlin Jacks, and headed West toward the trailers in Yakima. As we went by the slide area, Kevin snapped a few pictures, but there is no way they can do it justice. The amount of rock that moved the distance they did, rerouting the river in their path, is simply amazing. The temporary road is a nice little jaunt through Nile, which I would probably have never seen otherwise. We rolled back into the Yakima Wal-Mart shortly after 5:30pm, and headed for home.
Overall, this was an EXCELLENT day of wheelin, and I fully intend to retrace our path again sometime.

Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...
Thanks for posting up. Okay co-dawgs, where's the pics?!?! I did a little Rubi fender wrinkling at Liberty this summer, but did not even realize it until I was sucking down beer at camp. Is yours worse than that Toby? Considering what a cluster pheasant hunting was, maybe I should have been with you guys helping to unstick Jose.

Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.
