The tax man cometh...advice on CPA's?

Postby Lud » Fri Jan 18, 2013 8:05 am

I have always used Tax Act or Turbo Tax software and done my taxes on my own. I never thought I would need a CPA. However, getting married, losing my job, picking up dependents with dependent expenses, as well as starting a photobooth company with my new wife, kinda changes things.

Anyway, who do you guys use for your taxes? Are they Good/Bad??

I'm also gonna start needing to do quarterly tax payments either this year or next depending on how much money we make on the small business I have a feeling so I'm gonna need a CPA for that as well.

I married a CPA. Of course, she uses Turbo Tax. ;-)
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

I've always used the TurboTax too and have been happy with it. Got married, had kids, bought a house, and still used TurboTax all those years. Not sure how it works with your own business though, I would imagine you could still use it.

We have also used Turbo Tax for years.

When we bought the newer house, we started renting both sides of our Duplex and it became our "business".

We've been using Kent Oswalt CPA in Kennewick from a recommendation by a friend.
He has helped us tremendously, and we have always received a small refund for the past few years.

I use turbo tax for my own stuff. On the business side of things I use a CPA in Wenatchee but that's probably a bit far away. I doubt that you're going to want to file any taxes quarterly unless you plan on having employees. It could be more work than you need to worry about or spend money on.

We weren't planning on employees now but I kinda want to have someone around once in a while to take our place as we rent the photobooths primarily on weekends during the summer.

Except for the wedding in Naches that I'm dropping a photobooth off for this summer. :D I think I can manage to go to that one.

Thanks guys for all the advice. I decided to ask some questions of a few CPA's and brave going it on my own. I used TaxAct as I have in the past, which is as good as Turbo Tax, but cheaper.
