PC board component replacement

Postby scumby » Wed Sep 24, 2014 7:52 am

Anyone have the ability to safely de-solder and re-solder a relay onto a PC board? all of my soldering equipment is larger than should be used and have destroyed the solder tracks on previous boards.

I have a PC board for a dryer with a bad relay that costs $3.65 but the entire board costs anywhere from $95 to $150. figured it's worth a shot in repairing it.

Post up some pictures so we can get a size reference. I have done similar things before, but if it's really small I wouldn't feel comfortable trying.

the relay is the same size an an auto relay, say for headlights or horn, 4 posts, two load two control. it's the three big ones and the smaller one on it's own above them.

I don't have a sucker but I think I have the wicking copper mesh stuff.

You bet!.. can use some silver solder on that as it will accept higher temps.

Had to do the same thing to my refrigerator last year.
