New carbon pollution legislation was introduced yesterday.
Senatee Bill SB5127
http://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?Bi...5127&Year=2017
It would add a $25 tax per metric ton of carbon produced by most fossil fuels, including motor vehicle fuel. Based on 20lb of carbon dioxide produced per gallon of gas burned this would be about 22 cents a gallon. The tax would annually increase by the rate of inflation plus 3.5 percent.
The revenue would go into a new carbon pollution reduction account.
Taxing motor vehicle fuel and using the revenue for non-road purposes is in violation of WA Constitution Art II, Sec 40. That is why we get money “refunded” into the NOVA account.

May I add a no on this? This is not something that should happen without a statewide vote.
Thanks,
